In this episode I will be unboxing the Yakima SweetRoll Rooftop Kayak Saddle and installing it on a Tesla Model Y. So, without further ado, let’s get started! So in our case, we purchased the Yakima SweetRoll to be able to mount our kayak to the roof rack on our Tesla Model Y. I am really curious to hear how many other people are mounting a kayak on an electric vehicle, so leave a comment below if you have a kayak mounted on your EV, and let me know what model you have! If you are interested in learning more about the Tesla roof rack, I have a separate video where I show the installation process on a Model Y, and I’ll leave a link to that in the description below. The Yakima SweetRoll is a Kayak Saddle that is designed to securely mount your kayak on any vehicles roof rack. The product includes two front and two rear saddles as well as heavy duty straps and Bow and Stern tie-downs. This kayak saddle stands out from other kayak saddles because of its integrated rear roller wheels which make sliding your kayak into position super easy. In addition, the paddles pivot both forward and backwards and side to side to accommodate most boat undersides and the base of each paddle is spring loaded to automatically contour to your boat while loading. The product comes fully assembled right out of the box and does not require any tools to mount. The clamps are adjustable and are compatible with most roof racks including round, square and aerodynamics rack designs. You simply position the mounts where you want them and then turn the knobs to tighten them into place. The entire unboxing and installation process only takes about 10 minutes. Yakima recommends that the minimum crossbar spread for your roof rack is at least 24”, and the saddle is rated to accommodate a boat up to 80lbs.
