So I’ve spent the last few months using several liquid screen protectors and here’s the bottom line:

Liquid screen protectors are not a complete replacement for traditional screen protectors.

With all that being said, liquid screen protectors are pretty cool. I’ve come to this conclusion after using three different brands of liquid screen protectors on a variety of devices. The questions I personally had about liquid screen protectors and will answer in this video include:

*What are liquid screen protectors exactly? How do they work?*

Liquid screen protectors start off as liquid glass. The base compound that’s used in every liquid screen protector that I’ve come across is Silicone Dioxide.

Every product I used had the liquid screen protector in a wipe form and takes a couple of days to dry completely.

*Can you really re-add the oleophobic coating back to your device?*

I stripped 1/2 my iPhone X with a Magic Eraser and added a liquid screen protector to that stripped side. I performed a water droplet test on both sides of the iPhone and the side with the stock coating out performed the liquid screen protector side.

The only thing I noticed throughout this process is that the screens on my older devices definitely felt smoother.

*Does it add to the scratch resistance of the device?*

It does but unlike regular screen protectors, you can't take it off after it gets damaged. The damage is going to look permanent which isn't great.

*Will it fill in cracks or scratches?*

I was really hoping that it would. It doesn’t. I applied a liquid screen protector to a cracked screen protector to see if it would fill in the cracks and it didn't.

For scratches, I wiped my beat up Apple Watch Series 3 with a liquid screen protector and the giant gash across the front of the device didn’t look any better. Or worse.

*Does it really make the screen tougher?*

In short, yes it does. I took three identical screen protectors and applied a liquid screen protector to one of them. I used the first two screen protectors to determine what height they would break by dropping a 200g ball on them. It was between 9-10 inches. The screen protector with the liquid screen protector applied broke at 16 inches!

*Can you use it with a screen protector on top?*

Yes you can! Since it’s just glass on top of your smartphone screen, there’s no reason why you can’t add another layer of glass on your screen. Or plastic, depending on what type of protection your are looking for.

*Can you use it with a waterproof case?*

This is the only type of screen protector that would work well in any waterproof case since it doesn’t add any thickness to the device. From my perspective, it’s going to work with any waterproof case out there.

*So would I actually recommend using a liquid screen protector?*

In short? Not by itself on a smartphone. I think it's a good accessory if you're REALLY paranoid about your screen breaking and you use it with other accessories. Our smartphones go through a lot of wear and tear so the tiny bit of protection the product will offer won't be enough.

However, I'm not as against using liquid screen protectors on tablets. The screen on my iPad feels like new and since I don't take my iPad much, having the tiny bit of extra protection isn't a bad thing.
