CartaMundi Red Rock Casino Deck - a look at Las Vegas history

This deck comes from the red rock casino in las vegas, now known as the red rock resort. Its made by cartamundi, and features all the standard things you would expect from a casino deck. The fading of the borders to prevent marking, the casino logo on the backs, larger print for better visibility in a dark casinos environment.

The Cartamundi card company has a fascinating history dating back to 1970. Initially formed through a merger of three Belgian playing card manufacturers with names I wont attempt to pronounce, the company quickly put itself at the forefront of playing card design and superiority.

They produce a wide range of playing cards, including standard decks, custom-designed cards, and specialty cards such as the casino deck you see here.

Red rock casino opened in 2006, and the card backs feature the website which from what I could find online, stopped being the web address in 2012. To narrow it down, I would say probably 2006 or so, because I also found examples of the exact same colors and design, but produced by united states playing card company online. Those cards dated to 2006, using the H designation on the ace of spades, and 2006 was the last time the H has appeared on one of their aces.

These cards from what I can tell were sold in the red rock gift shop after being decommissioned as most decks of casino cards dont even make it through an entire evening before being retired. With the casinos then sending the cards to the local prison for repackaging.
