The first time I heard of this movie is due to YTber "The Critical Drinker", else I might have missed it completely. (I don't think I need to introduce if you're on my channel, or do I?)

Drinker's video:    • Sisu Laughs At Hollywood Action Films

Typically, "The Critical Drinker" is bashing shitty "progressive" movies that I enjoy seeing destroyed by his accurate commentary, but occasionally he does "The Critical Drinker Recommends" videos.

Sisu was one of those recommended movies.

I was hyped, and although It cannot be said that I was disappointed, the movie is worth watching, but it was bit of unexpected let down.

I'll explain.

You might know my love for war movies.
Especially from Rome, WW1 or WW2, my top movie ever being Saving Private Ryan (1998) - this is set into Finland during WW2.
You might know my love for gore in general - this is definitely gory. [thus, my little clip :)]
You might know I love "one man stand" against infinite odds - this is that.
But he has to not be invincible - the dude gets horribly injured plenty of times.
I love action - the movie is pretty much one long action scene.
I love Tarantino's style movies - this definitely was inspired by that.

So where is the problem, you might ask? Exactly down my alley, no?

It's bit too much over the top, EVEN for me...

What do I mean by that? The character although supposed to be a real person (no superpowers, just really really mean SOB commando - no problem there), but might as well be a superman by the looks of it.

Every time there was no way he could get away or survive, for some reason the "baddies" didn't immediately end him right there and then and MAKE SURE OF IT.
They either opted out to watch and see what will happen next, or, once captured, after killing many of them prior, being insanely lucky and really hard to kill whilst surviving a lot of punishment (injuries), they decide to just hang him and call it a day?

Every time they do try to kill him and even badly hurt him (get's casually shot to the side of head and no reaction to that), the movie tells us - just put some dirt in it and burn the wound away - it will be fine. eh.

Every time he uses some kind of cover - in very first instance, it is less than 1mm thick metal plate used for gold mining (u kidding, right?) - AS A SHIELD against storm of fire including heavy machine gun and tank rounds, EVERYTHING around him gets obliterated but his exposed areas (legs, arms, head - all that wasn't covered).
When he uses dead German soldier's body as a shield (oh, give me a break), the body of course gets torn into pieces off his back whilst not hitting him once when the bullets torn through the body or after when it totally disappeared - suddenly they can't hit him once. F*CK!

Did I mention that crashing a plane (whilst being inside) is no problem for him to survive?

OK, I like the movie, I do. I like its style and the production value is insane - apparently 6M budget? WTF! My hats off! I like the story, I like that there is no higher goal - but to keep the gold.
I do get that SISU - means incredible perseverance against impossible odds, determination.

The movie captures this well, it all makes sense.
The actors are spot on!
Jorma Tommila - is perfect fit for the main protagonist and Aksel Hennie has the perfect face for a German Officer (I don't intent that to be an insult), I enjoyed the movie a lot more because of them.

BUT, it's just a bit too much of a MARVEL, in a movie that portrays itself as not set in "alternative universe", it's too much. And I'm personally still fine with what we see in John Wick franchise - I love the series.

I just hate when the main character escapes death by a millimetre or a second, every second for hours in duration. And when there is no way that he can escape or survive (not even the writers of sci-fi's can imagine writing so), suddenly the bad guys do nothing, or don't make sure he's dead.

That is a "Hollywood Sin" I cannot forgive.

OK, the movie was made by UK+FIN collaboration, but definitely has the Hollywood vibe.

AGAIN, I like the movie, I just think it was bit too much over the top for me to understand why of all people "The Critical Drinker" decided to promote the movie. Maybe because there is hardly anything else coming out in 2022 to promote...

This is a small gem worth watching, amazing achievement considering the budget, just for me personally was bit too much over the top to swallow it every second for the entirety of the movie.
I little bit of realism would serve the movie better, me think.

Soon, I will finally release my own "action movie sequence", you can come back to me and laugh at me how not "over the top" is my own production.

Anyway, the Minefield part I found very realistic and brutal, along with the gore.
(to think of it now, maybe that was a bit too much over the top as well - depends on type of mine)

But it was the highlight of the movie for myself, hope you enjoy my "explosive" edition.
