Over the past weekend, the Ferrari SF-24 faced notable challenges at the 5.451-kilometer Shanghai International Circuit. Despite extensive tire analysis conducted at the Maranello factory before the 2024 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, the Shanghai event brought to light a persistent issue with the SF-24: tire management. While the car exhibited impressive performance in terms of tire degradation, concerns lingered regarding the activation of Pirelli compounds, crucial for extracting maximum performance irrespective of track conditions.

Addressing this complexity, it's evident that the solution extends beyond mere "heating up" of tires. Specific guidelines and strategies are essential for optimizing tire usage, ensuring the compound's working range is targeted and maintained throughout each lap, be it push laps or long-distance runs with high fuel loads. Until the fifth round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship, challenges primarily surfaced during qualifying, but at the Shanghai International Circuit, issues were prominent even during the race.

In a recent interview following the Chinese Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc emphasized the team's determination to address these concerns before the next round of the 2024 Formula 1 season, the Miami Grand Prix. Additional simulator testing, utilizing data gathered from Shanghai, is scheduled in the upcoming days, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc returning to Maranello for these intensive examinations. These tests aim to further scrutinize the hysteresis cycle of Pirelli tires, providing insights into underlying causes.

Beyond tire management, highlighted in our recent analyses post the Chinese Grand Prix, Leclerc also noted the SF-24's struggles in slower sections of the track.
