We get a lot of phone calls about gas fireplace odors. If an odor is smelled don’t panic! It most likely isn’t gas. If it smells like plastic it’s probably burn-off of the unit which is normal. If however, it smells like rotten eggs make sure a professional is called so they can find the gas leak.

Most of these units go years without problems but a lot of people don’t realize they need to be serviced every year by a professional. This can reduce any smells and keep the unit burning efficiently. If the fireplace is used rarely and it smells bad then it should go through the burn-off cycle to remove any particles. This can take 3-5 hours of consistent burning.

If you're having problems with your fireplace give Fluesbrothers a call! We are fully certified and train our techs on a routine basis to provide the best fireplace service in Kansas City! We are always striving to help our customers gain more knowledge of the units they’re using.
