In 1956-57, legendary photographers Dorothea Lange and Pirkle Jones teamed up to document the final year of life in Monticello, California. The town would soon be flooded to form Lake Berryessa in an attempt to meet water needs in the north Bay Area and Napa Valley.
This was the final documentary project in Lange's illustrious career. She's best known for her work with the Farm Security Administration documenting the Great Depression and her photograph Migrant Mother.
All photographs by Dorothea Lange and Pirkle Jones.
