Jenny McMillen Sweeney, subject matter expert for records relating to #WomensHistory at the National Archives, discusses the indictments of Susan B. Anthony and 14 other women for voting illegally in November 1872. The women believed that as American citizens, they had a right to vote under the 14th Amendment. Anthony was the only one of the women whose case went to trial.
