When a panel “Resists” a bullet, it actually stops the bullet within the layers of fiberglass. The bullet compresses and imbeds within the panel. At ArmorCore they say the panels “absorb & defeat” the energy of the bullet. Each layer steals a little more energy from the bullet as it passes through the panel. That energy transfer de-laminates the panel & stops the bullet.

The point of intruder deterrence – The idea is to create a safe haven within the home in case an intruder breaks in. The idea is NOT to create a “bomb shelter”-type room for extended use, so the room doesn’t have to be large to be safe. The walls, door & ceiling of the room are reinforced to resist any forcible attempt to break into that safe room. The room will be wired for a phone line to notify authorities of an intrusion.

Deterrence Material – The walls of the room are lined with heavy gauge Steel Mesh. The FBI & ATF both use this mesh for holding cells and as a safety feature within the office walls to protect law-enforcement officials in their field offices and headquarters. The door to the room is reinforced with steel frame plates. The door has dead bolts like you’ll find on an exterior door. The door itself is not specially built. Builders or consumers choose a standard door (steel-faced exterior door or solid-core wooden interior door) and the safe room contractor fits the steel frame reinforcement on the frame around that door.

Installation – Steel mesh is attached to the wall studs; drywall will cover the mesh. We have B-Roll of the installation process. They’ve installed the steel mesh with diamond-shaped fasteners driven into wall studs at close intervals to further stiffen the steel mesh

Next Step – After the steel mesh is installed, but before drywall goes up, we’ll install bullet-resistant fiberglass for further protection for the family against violent intrusion.
