In this video Drive By Reviews changes the oil and filter on his Chevy Cruze LTZ 2012. This is a relevant video for any chevy cruze from 2008-2015 as Chevrolet changed the cruze model in 2016+. This is a step by step how to video and walkthrough on changing oil, changing the filter, and using an Engine Performance Restoration treatment from BG products on the 1.4 Liter Turbo engine in the Chevy Cruze LTZ. Also, DBR uses MOA additive (another BG product) to the fully synthetic Pennzoil Platinum oil to improve oil and engine performance. Changing oil is a relatively easy process however there are some simple rules and tricks to follow that can make it an enjoyable experience instead of an aggravating one. Notes:
- Relevant for Chevy Cruze models from 2011-2015
- Dip stick is only accurate when parked on a level surface (which is where you should be changing oil anyways)
- Technically you should change the filter before draining oil with top side oil filters.There is a plug that sits in the filter canister that keeps a small quantity of oil (~1/4 quart) up in the canister to prevent dry starting the motor. If the filter is changed after draining the pan, the old oil in the canister will drain down into the pan and will not be removed.
- The torque specs for the oil pan bolt is 14 Nm (~10 Ft lbs) considered just past hand tight.
- After changing the oil and filling to the top of the dip stick instead of waiting for the first drive, you can just drive around the block and park on a level surface and recheck the oil level. After this you should get pretty close to the 4.25 quarts the manual calls for.
