Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. Today I’m driving a subcompact 2019 Volvo XC40 SUV from Kelley Blue Book’s long-term test fleet. As a T5 trim, KBB’s XC40 includes all-wheel drive and a 248-horsepower turbocharged engine. It’s a strong powertrain combination but I have some issues with how that power is delivered, along with how the XC40 steers, and brakes.

Dynamic quibbles aside it’s hard to deny the XC40’s sweet style. The 2019 XC40 undeniably looks like a Volvo but with distinct aesthetic character of its own. That style extends inside to the cool looking yet supremely practical interior. There’s a lot to like about the Volvo XC40 but do its dynamic shortcomings compromise its otherwise charming nature.
