Joshua Tree National Parks has some great Off-Roading trails, with Geology Road probably being the easiest. We downloaded a map (there's no cell service), made sure we had extra water and our emergency equipment, and went on the road with the Jeep Gladiator.

We went on the trail in early December, and only passed a handful of other cars (including one Nissan Altima that decided to drive back -- which was probably a good idea, but it was a one way so that was fun).
