You'll hear "follow your passion" said many times as de facto career advice. I'll explain why this is poor advice and what you should do instead to establish yourself and your career.

So don't follow your passion. Or at least that's not all there is to it. How to find the right career is down to a number of factors but simply following your passion and expecting that to be able to provide you with a successful career isn't a good idea.

Instead of following your passion or what you LOVE doing, it's a good idea to try to discover what you're good at. Find out what you're good at and focus your energy on getting great at it. You'll find passion will come with the increased kudos and reputation you gain from demonstrating that expertise. And if you happen to be passionate about it as well, then that's great.

So find your passion as common career advice is, in my opinion and experience, not the best advice you can follow to find that successful career.
