How To Delete the Air Assist On Your Honda Forks! Sometimes a person will want to delete the air assist system on their forks due to the components leaking and sometimes it is removed just for a cleaner look. Either way this video will apply to you as I show you a method to get rid of it safely. This video will apply to many motorcycles in the Honda line across the 80s but please note that fork oil weights and levels will vary by bike.

On this bike I replaced the original preload spring with a dedicated spacer made from 3/4" diameter PVC pipe. I feel cutting your spacer 1/2" shorter than your original spring would be the best as to make assembly easier.

Things required:
- Basic hand tools
- Drill and 21/64ths bit
- PVC or steel spacer of your choice
- 1/8 NPT plug OR an M8 x 1mm x 12mm bolt with sealing washer.
- Sealant

Once you remove the air assist lines, fitting, and replace spacer you have two options.

Option 1 - install an M8x1.0 bolt with sealing washer and thread sealant to cap and be finished.

Option 2 - Drill and tap your cap for 1/8 NPT threads and install plug. Below are items you need for option 2.

- Drill and 21/64ths bit
- 1/8 x 27 NPT thread tap
- 1/8 x 27 NPT Plug (Amazon affiliate link): https://amzn.to/3Qfc7IQ
- Oatey Sealant (Amazon affiliate link): https://amzn.to/476YDWg

Changing your fork oil is up to you but this is another area where you can make simple changes to best suit your bike and ideal feel.
