India's finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has turned down a ticket for the upcoming general elections saying she "doesn't have that kind of money". The comment has raised questions about the cost of winning a Lok Sabha seat in India. The opposition has latched on to the statement saying it confirms that other BJP leaders use money power to win elections. Her affidavit says that Sitharaman has assets worth Rs 2.6 crores while the spending limit per candidate in the Lok Sabha is Rs 95 lakhs.
