And now, on with the show! I had a pretty frustrating visit with my sleep doctor this week. She didn't seem too concerned about the Philips #Foamgate DreamStation recall, but wasn't aware of the volatile organic compound off-gassing.

I asked her what we could do to get my machine replaced, and she told me that, even if we could get BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama to pony up for a new machine, the local DMEs are all reserving any new units they can get their hands on for new patients, and likely will be doing so for the next year.

So I found a reasonably lightly used but slightly busted ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet and refurbished/restored it myself!

There's no clear indication of what, exactly, it means to refurbish a CPAP. Some shops just replace the replaceable bits, make sure all the buttons work, and perhaps run ozone through the innards.

I decided that in addition to replacing the broken filter door, I would check all the electrical connections thoroughly, and tear the machine down to its most basic component so I could soak the hard bits in vinegar and water, then wash them and the soft bits together in Dawn dish soap and hot water. I also ran some compressed air through the turbine to blow out any dust or debris that might have made it through there, and checked the foam for ozone damage.

Check out Nick's video at CPAP Reviews, in which he exposed the foam inside a variety of CPAPs to ozone. You can find that here:    • 🧼 Cleaning Your CPAP? Don't Use Ozone...
