One of several obstacle detection level crossings in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and one of five crossings within under one mile of each other in Grimsby's town centre. This is one of two crossings beside Grimsby Town station. At the other end of the station is Wellowgate level crossing which has seven warning lights and four alarms, which can be heard from this crossing. At this crossing there's a total of six warning lights which all have long hoods over the red lights, only two pedestrian lights which don't have any hoods and four reasonably quiet alarms. There is a sharp bend on one side of the crossing with a side-road, so two warning lights face the main road and two warning lights face the side-road. The old Garden Street signal box which is rather tall is still here. At Grimsby Town station, East Midlands Railway trains terminates so do not pass this crossing, whilst Northern and TrainsPennine Express trains continue to Cleethorpes via New Clee.

All crossings in Grimsby were upgraded in 2015 to become automated with obstacle detection equipment, known technically as MCB-ODs. These crossings are the most advanced and safest in the UK. With the upgrade, this crossing now has three sets of Lidars (Level Crossing Obstacle Detectors) or scanners, as-well as using radar technology which scans for any objects on the crossing as the barriers are being lowered. The barriers are automatically stopped if any object blocks the crossing. The warning lights are also fitted with two different cameras. Two cameras on the end of two extended rods point at the warning lights and are used to confirm the warning lights are operational and working correctly. Two other cameras on the backs of the same warning lights face the crossing and are used to monitor the crossing, as-well as catching number plates from vehicles that ignore the red lights and misuse the crossing.
