Acceptance! Many of you have probably heard of this concept when it comes to anxiety recovery.
The basic idea is to accept the physical symptoms and the thoughts as just a normal byproduct of anxiety. True acceptance will then signal to your brain that all the sensations going on are nothing to worry about and in return will naturally calm your hyper- alerted state. While it is true that accepting symptoms such as a racing heart, numbness, burning skin, headaches and tension and all the others will take away the fear of them and you will be able to break out of this cycle of fear symptoms more fear and more symptoms BUT without working on the underlying cause of your anxiety recovery most likely will only be short lived. You have to understand that you are in this state for a reason. You’ve had that first panic attack for a reason. Whether it was just a short period of time with immense stress or a lot of small little accumulated stress – you have reached that overwhelm point and ended up in a full blown panic attack. This attack might have felt like it came out of nowhere but it for sure did not. Inner conflicts, overworking oneself and the lack of proper stress coping mechanisms are very common for many of us, especially young adults in their 20s and 30s.
So in order to overcome anxiety in the long run it should be your focus to work on these aspects of your life. Envision your life and how you want it to be and work towards that vision. Every step in the right direction and you will regain confidence. And with confidence you will build up stress tolerance and rid yourself off inner conflicts and stress. Introduce a healthy daily routine with its sole focus on helping you achieve your goals and working on your anxiety issues. Stick to this plan day in and day out and you will be able to recover!
