In this short excerpt from our full length video on the 12 Labours of Herakles, he is tasked to capture a famously vicious wild boar and bring it back alive and unharmed to the court. Boars are famous for their impossibility to tame, so it was expected that Heracles would fail to subdue the beast.
In preparation, Heracles decided to visit his wise friend, the centaur Pholus for advice on capturing it. He was told to wait for winter, when the snow cover would help him track and corner the boar. Meanwhile, he was invited to stay and enjoy the centaur’s hospitality.
Centaurs were notoriously violent boozers, and one night, a whole host of them visited them, and everybody (including Heracles) having got riotously drunk, fell into an all-out brawl, with tragic consequences.
