Join us as we explore the innovative Tom robot, a smart sprayer designed for per-plant farming, developed by the Small Robot Company (SRC). SRC conducted an Innovate UK funded project in collaboration with Agri-EPI, the University of Strathclyde and Chinese Partners (CP).

This groundbreaking project aims to revolutionise the way we approach crop management and reduce the environmental impact of farming, focusing on maize and wheat crops. In this video, we take you behind the scenes at the Small Robot Company workshop, where we showcase the capabilities of Tom, a robotic rover platform that is lighter than a tractor and has a ground pressure one-third of a human foot.

Discover how Tom gathers top-down images of crops, processes the data to identify pests and diseases, and uses this information to guide targeted treatments in the field.

Learn about the intelligent spray system, which consists of a boom carrying 12 flexible nozzles and a 50-litre tank for chemical control agents. This innovative system allows farmers to apply the correct amount of treatment at the right place and time, reducing chemical waste and potential environmental issues.

Hear from the project partners, including experts from the University of Strathclyde and Agri-EPI as they discuss their roles in the project, the international collaboration, and their excitement for the future of Tom. Agri-EPI's industry-leading expertise aided the analysis, development, and optimisation of data collection, ensuring the success of this initiative. With plans to make this technology available to farmers in the UK and beyond, Tom has the potential to transform the agriculture industry.
