How to get rid of spotted spurge weeds and prostrate spurge weeds in your lawn is a question commonly asked by lawn care enthusiasts. Spotted or Prostrate spurge are especially difficult weeds to get rid of in your lawn. Typical methods such as mowing your Bermuda lawn at the correct height doesn't work as well for these types of weeds because they can survive at heights much lower than others.

Weed control can be a full time job and really takes the fun out of your lawn care program. The weed control that I like best doesn't involve a weed spray or chemical like Spectracide, Roundup or Image weed killer. Spotted spurge is one of the weeds that Spectracide can kill. In a mass spotted spurge outbreak, using Spectracide might end up being the option you have to go with.

The best long term weed control is to grow a healthy lawn and mow it regularly at the correct height for your grass type. This creates a natural weed control because the tight turf creates a situation where weeds have trouble competing with the lawn for the resources they need to grow.

The best way to immediately get rid of weeds without killing the grass in your lawn is to simply pull the weeds manually. That said, chemicals can help initially kill broadleaf weeds and other lawn problems like crabgrass.

Granular products like Spectracide weed control work slower than the liquid versions but it is also much safer for the lawn. When applied at the correct rates, it should help kill prostrate or spotted spurge without harming your turfgrass. When it comes to herbicides you want to use as little as necessary to kill the weeds and nothing else. Granular weed control like Spectracide also contains Dithiopyr which is a pre-emergent to prevent new weeds from growing back once they're gone. Remember all we're using Spectracide for is to buy us time to grow a healthy lawn. In a pinch, it's a good tool for getting rid of spotted spurge.
