So you're in a job interview and you're asked about your salary expectation, you give them a range say X to Y.

Make sure X i.e. the lowest value in the range is at least 10-15% higher than your desired salary figure.

For example, if your desired salary is 8 lacs, make sure the range you provide is 10-12 lacs so that even if the company negotiates you still end up with the salary you wanted.

Needless to say, you must be very careful while designing the range as you don't want to sound greedy and lose the offer completely.
