The first ever arrival of the Gulfstream G700 in Auckland, New Zealand, is a historic moment for both the country and aviation industry. Auckland Airport, with IATA code AKL and ICAO code NZAA, is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand with over 21 million passengers in the year ended March 2019. Located near Māngere and Airport Oaks, it is just 21 km south of Auckland city center and serves as a domestic and international hub for Air New Zealand and Jetstar's New Zealand hub.

The airport is a crucial infrastructure asset for New Zealand, providing thousands of jobs and handling 71% of the country's international air passenger arrivals and departures. It is one of only two airports in New Zealand capable of handling Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 aircraft. With a single runway, 05R/23L, which is 3,535 m long and Cat IIIb capable, the airport can accommodate up to 45 flight movements per hour, making it the busiest single-runway airport in Oceania. While a new northern runway was initially planned to be built in several stages, construction has been put on hold and expected to resume in 2025, depending on demand and capacity management options.

Gulfstream announced its new flagship aircraft, the G700, ahead of the 2019 NBAA Convention & Exhibition in Las Vegas. The $75 million jet has a longer cabin, can fly up to 7,500 nmi/13,890 km, and can accommodate up to 19 seated passengers or 10 sleeping passengers. It has the same cockpit as the G500/G600 and is powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines. The aircraft completed its first flight in 2020 and customer deliveries are set to start in 2022. It has a MTOW of 107,600 lb and a 6,250 ft runway takeoff requirement. The G700 has a 1,283 sq ft wing and wider outboard canted winglets. It's equipped price was $78M in 2022.

Melbourne Airport (the aircraft's origin airport) is located in the suburb of Tullamarine and is 23 km northwest of Melbourne city center. It has four terminals: one international, two domestic, and one budget domestic terminal. In 2016-2017, the airport saw 25 million domestic passengers and 10 million international passengers. It has direct flights to 33 domestic destinations and destinations in the Pacific, Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. Melbourne Airport is a hub for Qantas and Virgin Australia and serves as headquarters for Australian airExpress and Toll Priority, handling more domestic freight than any other airport in Australia. It is the number one arrival/departure point for the airports of four of Australia's seven capital cities.
