Venerable Tenzin Gendun recalls a monk who once got lung (Tibetan wind disease) and stopped going to pujas, doing prayers etc. So all the Tibetan monks wondered why he did not do prayers to collect merit to overcome that obstacles. (This part is missing in the recording). So the western mind is not used to that concept of accumulating merit and often finds it difficult to believe in prayers.
Then Ven Gendun inspires us to look at our worldly life where we cherish teachers that we like and who we automatically wish the best for and to apply a similar approach to our spiritual teachers to start developing naturally a wish for them to be well and live long. So he emphasises the three last parts of the seven limb prayer.
We then continue with a half hour meditation on calm abiding.
