First up, Boom Supersonic has been authorized to go supersonic!
Boom has gotten an approval to operate the XB-1 above Mach 1 up to 20 times over the next year.
Boom will operate in the Black Mountain Supersonic Corridor in Mojave, CA.
The company says it will warm up with 10-20 flights, each increasing speed.
After the first supersonic flight, Boom will increase in speed in 0.1 Mach increments up to 1.3 Mach.

Next up, a sheriff’s airplane in California was hit with a laser this week.
While operating on an undisclosed mission, the airplane was hit by a laser from below.
Pilots were able to pinpoint the location and officers responded, finding 58 year old Gary Akers, who admitted to pointing the laser at the airplane.
Don’t be that guy.

Last up, the FAA issued a ground stop for Alaska Airlines due to a software issue.
Alaska attempted to upgrade their software used to calculate weight and balance, which failed.
The ground stop lasted about an hour and delayed several Alaska flights.
It’s unclear what actually caused the issue, but props to Alaska for not canceling flights!
