In this video I will tell you about my experience with the Artillery Sidewinder X2. I will show you how to assemble your new printer and set it up for success on your first print! Plus, I will show you what changes to make to your slicer settings so that the filament change process works properly during a filament runout event.

Artillery generously sent me this 3D printer and I used it for 3 months and successfully printed over 100 models before formulating my opinion on this machine. Previously, I reviewed the Artillery Genius Pro and you can find that video here:

The Sidewinder X2 is similar in almost everyway to the Genius Pro so I wasn't surprised when I found the performance to also be very similar. However, it has a much larger build volume with a total volume of 300x300x400. The construction is very high quality and the components are very robust compared to other printers on the market in the same price range. I truly believe that more people should be giving the Artillery printers consideration.

I used this machine in my production environment for these 3 months and it did not let me down. I only had one print jam over this time period and I believe it was due to some very aggressive speed and retraction settings I was running to really cut down on print times. Otherwise it was very drama free printing and lots of high quality parts.

The Sidewinder X2 features dual Z axis lead screws and motors, a z axis timing belt, auto bed levelling sensor, volcano style nozzle, direct drive titan extruder, larger part cooling fan, beautiful ribbon cable management, and a power AC heated build platform.

One thing it doesn't have is a PEI flex plate. In the video I explain that an upgrade to a PEI double sided flex plate makes print removal easier so you won't have to wait for the glass bed to completely cool down. I offer these double sided flex plates on my website, guaranteed to fit the Sidewinder X2:

On both the Genius Pro and the Sidewinder X2 I install my flex plates right overtop of the original glass. This is because the glass build plates on the Artillery printers are bonded to the levelling knobs and you cannot remove them. This works perfectly fine and I would suggest increasing your print bed temperatures 5-10 degrees to keep the flex plate nice and hot during your print.

My only complaints about this machine are mostly related to the screen and firmware. I believe Artillery could do a slightly better job with the screen user interface and that would require a screen firmware update.

Additionally, on their website the download section could be made more clear on the firmware versions available. It is unclear what versions are listed on the website.

The firmware also defaults the extrusion mode back to absolute extrusion when the runout detection sensor is triggered. Therefore, it is important to change your slicer settings to use absolute extrusion otherwise your print will not resume properly when it gets tripped during a print. Check the video timestamps below to see what part of the video I address this issue using Prusa Slicer as an example. This is something that Artillery could also do a better job of documenting for people so this information is easier to find.

Overall, I really enjoy using this printer and it says a lot when I have not designed any upgrades for it over 3 months of using it. Normally I would be designing something right away - see my other videos if you don't believe me!
