FromCaveToKingdom - Story

"For days and nights they fought, and all lost hope that this war would once be over, as this was the greatest war they had seen. Scared and confused, people refused to surrender, because they loved their King and they loved their Queen, who had always looked after them. The people did not run when the blazing summer sun burned their skin, and they did not run when the autumn storms came. In the winter, they still were on the battle field, almost freezing and with no supplies, while the enemies kept coming and coming, stronger and even more ferocious. They did not run because their King was fighting by their side, and their Queen was taking care of the wounded, and how could have they betrayed the Royal Family. Even if the many were hungry and afraid for their lives in this never-ending war, they had never considered fleeing.

When the spring sun warmed the fields, hope was back and it looked like the victory was not an impossible dream anymore. The enemy finally seemed to slowly retreat, and all everyone was talking about was peace, and crops, and weddings, because, you see, spring was the season of new beginnings. But fate has its own plans and we, humans, cannot ever truly understand how everything can change in the blink of an eye. One day, when the apple trees were in blossom, a news that traveled as fast as the lightning left the villagers in despair. In that very moment they all knew they were doomed, and everything was lost, as their King and Queen were lying dead, and their blood was on the hands of traitors. And as if this were not enough, the young Prince was gone no one knew where, and only rumours surrounded his mysterious disappearance. Who knows, maybe things might have looked brighter had the people known that two of the King's most loyal men snuk away with the Prince in the middle of the night, in an attempt to save the King's heir.

Spring passed, another summer came, and the three were still wondering the vast lands in search of a new place to start over, but the enemy had turned everything to ashes, and all they encountered were deserted villages, and frightened people, hiding wherever they could. When the first golden leaves touched the ground, the men were still looking for the perfect place. When the clouds turned grey and the first snow came, they knew they could not keep walking, as winters in those parts were cold and harsh, and they needed shelter in order to survive. They finally realized that there's no perfect time and no perfect place to start something, and so they stopped in front of a cave, determined to confront their destiny - "This is where we stop." the Prince-without-a-Kingdom said, "This winter shall pass, and the spring to come shall find us building a new Kingdom, because winter is to put thoughts into words, and spring is to put words into actions."
