2024 Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Starting at an estimated $355,000

Highs: Soul-soothing comfort, tasteful opulence, oily V-12 engine.
Low: proportions, standard rear seats lack modern comforts, that's a lot of money.
Verdict: The Cullinan embodies the dreamy grandeur and imposing presence that other luxury SUVs strive for but few achieve.

overview
There's a reason why people call high-end luxury items "Rolls-Royce of..." The Cullinan is a big-body SUV powered by a silky smooth twin-turbo V-12 rated at up to 592 horsepower. Built for absolute comfort and priced for the ultra-rich, the Cullinan pampers you with two rows of plush seating that's as lovely as the leather seats. No other SUV has lambswool floor mats on the inside and a killer hood ornament on the outside. While the exterior may be a little too London cab for our taste, the cabin can be customized to suit the wildest tastes and deepest pockets. The Daddy Warbucks of SUV perfection has few rivals, but if a billionaire has to cross-shop, the Bentley Bentayga or Mercedes-AMG G63 might be a good place to start. Even then, they're no Cullinan swinging car doors.

In the imaginary scenario where we could afford a Cullinan, we'd choose the Crystal paint scheme, 22-inch seven-spoke wheels, gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and electronic tow hitch. We noted the Center Console Immersive Seating option, which gives the rear seats a massage function and replaces the middle seat with a console that doubles as a cool box with two champagne flutes and a whiskey decanter. And we wouldn't miss the opportunity to show the fabric overhead a fiber-optic starry night sky via the Shooting Star Headliner. Finally, we'd add rear privacy glass and side curtains to make the back row a serene sanctuary.

Engine, Transmission and Performance
The Cullinan's twin-turbo 6.7-liter V-12 makes 563 horsepower (592 in the Black Badge model) and is whisper-quiet so it won't disturb the VIPs in the cabin. The vehicle we tested recorded an acceleration time to 100 km/h of just 4.5 seconds; This was impressive for a vehicle weighing nearly three tons. All-wheel drive is standard, but we doubt buyers will never venture off the tarmac and risk damaging the paint. The Cullinan rides on air suspension, which takes information from a road-scanning camera and automatically adjusts the vehicle's height to compensate for imperfections in the pavement. Ride comfort is beyond the standards of normal luxury vehicles as the Cullinan glides along the road and transmits nothing obtrusive to the occupants.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

The Cullinan's V-12 powertrain is rated at 12 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Believe it or not, these figures aren't the worst in their class. The V-12-powered Bentley Bentayga has ratings of 12 mpg city and 17 highway. As part of our extensive testing regime, we ran the Cullinan on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and it exceeded expectations, achieving 21 mpg. Interior, Comfort and Cargo
The spacious cabin is covered in full-grain leather, lambswool carpeting, beautiful wood trim and milled aluminum accents. If you want an even higher level of luxury, Rolls-Royce will customize nearly every part of the Cullinan's already sumptuous interior with every taste imaginable. The only warts in this otherwise decadent space are the all-digital instrument cluster, which lacks the elegance of an analogue setup, and the standard rear seating, which isn't as flexible as a park bench. At least buyers can fix the latter problem by opting for a two-seat second row with adjustability and massage functions. The exterior is classic Rolls-Royce, but the vehicle's tailgate configuration has allowed the brand to fit an optional Display Suite into the cargo area, consisting of a pair of leather-trimmed chairs and a small table that juts out of the floor. This is by far the most luxurious way to attend a polo match at a country estate. This SUV is an uncompromising Rolls-Royce in every respect, although it clearly breaks with the tradition of the long-established British brand.
