Stories, like rivers, gather and meander. After paddling the fast-flowing waters of the upper Murray I have to negotiate the largest man-made construction on the river - the Hume Dam. There are old timers camped out along the river and a journey into the history of the Federation Drought - "the worst in history" - which led to the building of the dam. The paddle also evoked memories of fishing on the river as a young boy and the fight to save another river from being dammed (the Franklin River in Tasmania). The journey continues - combining footage and recollections from my 2005 descent of the Murray - a 2000 mile paddle, with more recent encounters as I revisit sections of the river.
