We aim to clear up the confusion surrounding the different forms of the taut-line hitch.

Multiple different adjustable tension knots are often referred to as the "taut-line hitch." You may have seen names used in place of the "taut-line hitch" like the Midshipman's Hitch, the Rolling Hitch, the Magnus Hitch, or others.
