Picasso has been nominated by some as the "greatest artist of the 20th century". This claim however can seem hard to believe for many people when they are confronted by his work. Picasso's canvases full of gurning, dripping and misshapen figures, with their nightmarish colour palettes and creative facial feature placements do not look much like the great artworks of old we are used to, and yet Picasso is again and again held up as being the greatest artist of the 20th century. Why is this? was the 20th century a step backwards for art? Or was Picasso really that good? What exactly was the reason for his supposed greatness, and just what is the deal with those faces? Well, in this video were going to take a look at these questions and try to understand the how's and the whys of Picasso a little better, and to figure out whether or not Picasso really was the greatest artist of the 20th century.
