The Hughes 500 helicopter featured in Magnum P.I. inspired several generations of dreamers to become helicopter pilots, myself included. I’ve always loved the Hughes 500 and its younger offspring the MD 500 in all its forms but especially in the special orange, yellow, brown paint scheme seen in Magnum P.I.

Right next to Airwolf, the Magnum P.I. 500 is my ultimate dream helicopter. Thanks to my friends at Flying Eyes sunglasses, I was able to fly a Hughes 500 swathed in a factory paint job exactly like the helicopter Theodore "T.C." Calvin flew in Magnum P.I. No, this is not the exact helicopter shown in the TV show, but from the pilot's seat it felt pretty damn close. Thanks for flying with me! #MicahFlies
