Ever wondered what it’s like to do a @parkrunuk in a prison?

We spoke to Ross, a running club volunteer who says his uncle, who works at HMP Leyhill as a Physical Education Instructor (PEI), introduced him to the idea of doing a parkrun in the prison.

Ross said: “Everyone’s doing it for a different reason, it’s always about encouraging each other.”

As a specialist prison officer role, PEIs play an important part in delivering purposeful activity for prisoners, as well as promoting fitness and wellbeing opportunities for staff. The role requires discipline, a passion for physical and mental fitness and a keen interest in developing others.
