VCM, AFM, MDS, .... whatever you call it, cylinder deactivation is a bad idea. Manufacturers are increasingly leveraging technology and complexity in bad ways to squeeze out tiny improvements in automobile efficiency at the altar of long term cost and reliability. I'm convinced more cars will hit the landfill earlier due to these wayward innovations to save a few gallons of petrol now.
