Mechagodzilla is a fictional mecha character that debuted in the 1974 movie "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla". In its first appearance, Mechagodzilla is portrayed as an alien enemy that battles Godzilla. In following renditions, Mechagodzilla is typically portrayed as a man-made weapon created to protect Japan from Godzilla and other monsters. In all forms, the figure is presented as a robotic doppelgänger armed with a variety of weapons, and he is often regarded as Godzilla's archenemy, alongside King Ghidorah.
