In this episode I break out my picollo that I bought from my high school nemesis turned friend. After brushing off some dust and playing some pieces, I then discuss the Mahillon piccolo and my experience behind it as a baroque style player. This experience lead me to playing with Van Morrison, along with Pee Wee Ellis from the James Brown band, in Van’s swing section for almost twenty years. If you’re interested in the piccolo and it’s innovations over the years I also go into the lead pipe innovation by Bob Malone. The piccolo creates a high and heroic melody, rich in grandeur and emotion, and I have loved my experience in music playing them.
