In this video I tried to sync the Soma Laboratory Pulsar-23 drum modules with other gear by midi. I used the Morningstar FX MC6 MK2 midi controller for that.
I’ve decided to use the Hologram Microcosm’ looper in Quantize mode synced to the Pulsar’s beat.
I should say it was a nightmare and ass pain to close the loop right in time – it always tended to be longer for several beats. No matter how precise I tried to press buttons for In and Out points. I never had an issue with other loopers that have quantize option. Might be the issue of a long loop though. It’s a problem that you cannot change this quantization tolerance in Microcosm.
Another unpleasant feature of the Microcosm is that you cannot change the transition time when changing the loop speed. You should live with what you have.
The third problem that was not covered here is that when you play with the Microcosm’s looper for a long period of time it starts to cut high frequencies of the overdubbed layers right after you record them. Only reboot can help.
Microcosm is a nice pedal, but I cannot shake the feeling that it is still very raw and need a lot of upgrades in many parts.
