Episode 6: Rainy Weather Investment — Our Big Short Rainy Day Trade on Chuy’s & Del Frisco's $CHUY $DFRG

Chris kicks off his morning coffee with Fast Visa Founder Paul Kang. The Dumb Money team has little first-hand insight into the market for immigration workflow automation or how to value it as a software service. Due to uncertainty surrounding the niche industry sector, Chris establishes an imperative pre-qualifier for Paul to attain before getting an investment from the Dumb Money team.

Shortly afterward we meet up at Chris’ thriving Dallas restaurant/bar, Chelsea Corner, where he once worked as a bar-back and pizza delivery boy while attending college at Southern Methodist University. It’s the ideal meeting spot for a product and investment pitch from Evan Brody and Heidi Potthoff who manage restaurant loyalty program start-up PnP Loyalty. The pitch leads to a heated Dumb Money debate over the market need for restaurant loyalty programs.

Lastly, we have lunch at one of our favorite Dallas barbeque restaurants Ferris Wheelers. While at lunch, Chris unveils two original stock trade ideas for Texas restaurant chains Chuy’s Tex Mex ($CHUY) and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse ($DFRG). Both are short trades leveraging put options to capitalize on one of the rainiest Fall seasons in Texas history. Both restaurants have a high concentration of locations in Texas and if the Dumb Money team’s investment thesis is correct, will see a sharp drop off in business from the abnormally rainy weather.
