With the 2019 MDX, Acura has made the best-selling luxury 3-row SUV even better. A new A-Spec trim delivers sharp, athletic design. Tweaks to the 9-speed automatic transmission cure it of past issues. Standard equipment, including the AcuraWatch suite of safety systems, make it safe enough to transport your family. So, what’s left to improve?

Well, the infotainment system still feels dated, relying on Acura’s 2-screen approach, which blends physical controls with touch-capacitive ones. We’d prefer to see the True Touchpad interface from the 2019 RDX and one touchscreen—but at least the 2019 MDX now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto!

Under the hood, a 3.5-liter V6 engine makes 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, delivered either through the front wheels, or all four via Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). Inside, the MDX features incredibly comfortable seats, which were upholstered in red leather and black Alcantara suede in Chris Wardlaw’s A-Spec test vehicle. You’ll find a grand total of 68.4 cubic feet of space behind those front seats if you fold the 2nd and 3rd rows down, 38.4 cubes with only the 3rd row folded, and 15 with all rows in place.
