In this Curling Weight Control video, Competition Coach Matt Bean discusses the importance of practicing hitting hog to hog split times for up-weight hits.

Maybe you're a new curler and you get on the ice and your skip calls for control weight. What does that mean? Control, normal, firm... "ok," you may think to yourself, "I guess I'll just throw it hard."

The goal of this drill is to at least get your own team on the same page for how heavy each of these up-weight hits should be. That way, each team member can be on the same page when throwing the called shot. Below is a reference and some companion videos that you can use to help improve your game.
Scoring:
2 stones for each weight. Within .5 seconds hog to hog = 2 points and within .3 seconds hog to hog = 5 points.

Control – Tap the stomach (10.5 seconds hog to hog, curls 1 foot)
Normal – Tap the chest (9.5 seconds hog to hog, curls 6 inches)
Firm – Tap the shoulder (8.5 seconds hog to hog, curls 3 inches)
Peel – Tap the top of head (7.5 seconds hog to hog, no curl)
