The dreaded white vans of the notorious "morality police" have returned to the streets of Iran with full force.

Multiple videos posted online show women being bundled into the back of vehicles for as little as wearing a coat that is too short or too colourful.

Under the code name "Noor" or "light" in Farsi, the Islamic Republic has launched a major new crackdown on anyone violating its draconian female dress codes.

The new clampdown started on April 13, just hours before Iran launched hundreds of suicide drones and missiles at Israel.

Many Iranians speculate this timing was chosen to coincide with a moment when global attention was diverted by the looming threat of a major conflict in the Middle East.
