Filmed a new experience today from my balcony: A police car driving slowly through downtown Kuala Lumpur while blasting a public announcement about staying at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The full public statement, as far as I could hear, was:

"Ladies and Gentlemen
You are currently invoked to stay at
home at the prevention and control of the
Infectious Diseases Declaration of Infected
Local Areas Order 2020 are enforced from
March 18, 2020 to March 31, 2020.

Failing to comply with the regulations
certain actions can be taken as stated
in Rule no. 7. You can be imposed a
fine not exceeding RM1000 (USD250)
and or imprisonment for a term not
exceeding 6 months, or both."

The recording was then repeated in the Malay language.

So, decided not to do any bicycling today, but just go out by foot for food. Moreover, by tomorrow, the Malaysian military will be assisting the police enforcing the lockdown / controlled movement order.

In conclusion: Stay home - except for essential errands like getting food.
