On April 11, Charleston experienced unexpected heavy rainfall, with over three inches falling downtown, causing flooding on several streets. Forecasts initially predicted lower rainfall amounts, but late adjustments indicated a wetter morning. Consequently, numerous streets were closed, and free parking facilities were opened downtown. The number of highway closures, reaching 45 by 12:30 p.m., was unusually high for an April storm, with only a few instances exceeding this count since 2015, mainly due to hurricanes. In 2017, Hurricane Irma caused 123 route closures, while 55 closures resulted from Idalia in August 2023.
