Universal Studios Hollywood is initiating the construction of a new roller coaster based on the "Fast & Furious" series. This sports car-inspired attraction is set to replace the previously closed Animal Actors and Special Effects show on the theme park's Upper Lot (Entertainment Center).

The anticipated roller coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood promises an exhilarating street racing experience, complete with a track that stunningly weaves between the park's Upper and Lower Lots (Studio Center). It features cars designed to mimic a drifting expertise, enhancing the thrill.

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that this new "Fast & Furious" coaster will incorporate a cutting-edge ride system with innovative and unprecedented technological achievements.

The replacement of the Animal Actors and Special Effects show with the new coaster was confirmed by Universal officials. The former show's venue began to be demolished in May.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the "Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift" will be a shuttle coaster with dual stations and spinning cars, according to the Roller Coaster Database. However, an official opening date for Universal Studios Hollywood's latest attraction has not been announced.

Screamscape has shared early concept art of the "Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift" coaster, showcasing a unique half-loop C-shaped spike track segment above the ride's entrance. These early concepts, formed during the Blue Sky phase, are subject to change throughout the development.

The coaster, themed around sports cars, is expected to feature a multi-launch system with vehicles attached to a controlled spinning mechanism, creating a drifting effect, as reported by Screamscape.

Screamscape also notes that Intamin Amusement Rides will likely construct the coaster responsible for Velocicoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The goal is to create a terrain-style ride comparable to Florida's Velocicoaster in terms of thrill.

A permit filed by the Los Angeles County government detailed the planned path of the new coaster, describing it as an outdoor attraction starting from the Upper Lot, descending towards the Lower Lot along the hillside near Los Angeles County Fire Station 51, and looping around the Starway escalator.

The ParkFans forum, diligently following the development of the "Fast & Furious" coaster (codenamed Project 409), has even superimposed the proposed track layout on a satellite image of the Universal hillside.

The "Fast & Furious" franchise, valued at $7 billion and as Universal Pictures' most lucrative and longest-running film series, is set to inspire two attractions at the Hollywood theme park. The existing "Fast & Furious — Supercharged" attraction will continue to operate as part of the park’s Studio Tour.
