Out of all the characters, I bonded with the one I would never have thought I would. I know she’s kinda problematic, but really, everyone in this family is. Everyone in real life is. I read so much hate towards Shirley these past few days and I’m just… why? I mean, I get why. I know she did so many mistakes, but God she tried, so hard, and failed most times, but she tried. And when you try, when you offer help for so many years, sometimes you just get tired of all this. I see so much of myself in this character, as a girl, as an adult, as an big sister. Sometimes big brothers/sisters find their siblings silly, they don’t have time to play with them, to do tea parties and stuff like that and looking back, when bad things happen, you just re-live all the things you haven’t done for them because you thought they were silly and childish. And I could feel the guilt in all these characters, for what was left unsaid and undone. But what I really loved about THOHH is that it encourages forgiveness, towards the others but also towards ourselves.
I won’t get any more personal in this DB, because the level on which I related to this character is almost scary, I am just really glad we still have such complex and flawed women on our screen.
Plus I had the urge to vid her because, tbh, I know she’s the least favourite in this show – with poor Steve – and I really couldn’t stand the thought that not a single video about her exists.
