HS2 Birmingham to Manchester: What is it? What did Prime Minister Rishi Sunak say? Is HS2 still going ahead?Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed that plans for a high-speed rail link between Birmingham and Manchester have been cancelled.
There had been a lot of speculation in recent weeks that the PM would scrap this section of the HS2 project.
Mr Sunak announced that "every single penny" of the £36 billion saved would be invested in new transport projects in the North and the Midlands.
But some Northern leaders have reacted angrily to the scrapping of the HS2 links.
From its the beginning HS2 has been controversial.
Supporters say the rail link will improve transport times, create jobs and help the country's economy.
Whilst critics say the project is expensive and will have a negative impact on the countryside, people's lives and wildlife.
