The Adaptive Milling operation maximizes material removal rates by maintaining a constant chip thickness. The algorithm performs these calculations using the nominal size of the endmill. The use of cutter diameter compensation with reground endmills introduces errors which can eventually lead to tool breakage. Cutter Compensation is not recommended with the Adaptive Milling command. This video is a proof of concept presentation of an technique to utilize reground endmills safely and efficiently. Automation techniques in NX CAM create Adaptive Milling paths for specified sizes of reground endmills. The post then manages the process of associating a specific tool size to a specific roughing path subroutine.
