Eid means 'celebration' or 'festival',
In Islam there are two main holidays Muslims observe:

1. Eid al-fitr which is the celebration of the breaking of the fast and marks the end of ramadan.
2. Eid al-adha which is the holiday of sacrifice commemorates prophet Abraham (AS) who was willing to sacrifice his son Ishmael on God's command.
