The company introduced Corolla Cross, the SUV version of its 54-year-old model Corolla, to the world in a press release in Thailand.

We had already seen various spy shots of the Corolla Cross a long time ago, which appeared months after the Yaris Cross. So we've been expecting this SUV already. The vehicle was developed on the Toyota TGNA-C platform of the Corolla and C-HR models. In terms of specs, it is positioned between the C-HR and RAV4 models.

Although the name Corolla is there, the Corolla Cross, which has little to do with the compact model sold with sedan and hatchback body types, has a style inspired by its younger brother Yaris Cross and other SUVs within the Toyota brand.


The profile of the Corolla Cross is combined with the wide grille which descends at an angle. So it is like a classic SUV. Choosing an angular and imposing stance, the Toyota team added a fluid aesthetic to the vehicle by playing a little design trick with small character details and lines.

The full-frontal profile of the Corolla Cross has a bold design which helps to make it look more SUV-like. It is almost a bit menacing and villainous-looking in a good way. It can easily be the favorite mode of transportation for Stormtroopers.

In terms of design, it is seen that Corolla Cross uses the design language of Yaris Cross, a smaller model. It is also possible to find traces of RAV4 at many points in the design of the vehicle.

At the launch event of Corolla Cross in Thailand, 2 engine options were introduced. One of them is a 1.8-liter petrol 2ZR-FBE engine. This engine produces 141 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque and transfers these values to the front wheels of the vehicle via the CVT transmission.

A second engine option is a hybrid unit. This one includes a 600 Volt electric motor and a 1.8-liter petrol engine. In this specification, the vehicle produces 100 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. In the hybrid version, the transmission is e-CVT.

The interior looks almost the same as the new Corolla models. It isn't a trailblazer and is not as original as the exterior. The cabin is almost identical to the last generation Corolla hatchback. The digital instrument cluster and the large display in the center console are among the dominant characters in the cabin. So nothing to write home about but elegant and comfortable. Toyota Corolla Cross has a classic crossover height. It is undeniably higher than a Sedan but not as high as a Fortuner.
