Book shopping with Laufey

We spent the afternoon browsing the shelves in Broadway Market…

When Laufey isn’t working on music, you can usually catch her with a cup of coffee, engrossed in a good book.

The prolific Los Angeles-based artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist has been making a name for herself over the past few years by delivering a fresh perspective on her jazz and classical roots, and is gearing up for the release of her second album ‘Bewitched’ on September 8th.

In order to celebrate her love of books and storytelling, Laufey started a book club last year. Together the Laufey Book Club have read titles such as Tove Jansson’s The Summer Book,
Donna Tartt’s ‘The Secret History’ and Susanna Kaysen’s ‘Girl, Interrupted’. She describes the collective as a “low stakes” book club, and hosts monthly meet ups on Instagram live to discuss what they've been reading.

During some downtime in London we couldn’t resist taking her to Broadway Market in London Fields for a wander around some of the neighbourhood’s renowned independent book shops; Artwords Bookshop, Donlon Books and The Broadway Bookshop.

We spent the afternoon browsing the shelves and getting to know Laufey’s book buying habits - which she admits sometimes involves judging a book by its cover!
